Feeling British; Scones, Tea, Polo

July 28, 2012

This is none other than the day of the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. To be honest, I have been waiting for this day. Well, London it was July 27 now that I think about it. But gah! Still the Olympics, the biggest sporting event that happens every 4 years has now started. Except for the Archery and Football events that started early thinking of how many competitors have entered the sports.

So here's how my entire day went along.

Of course, being the hard core football fan that I am I decided to wake up at 3:30 am.

It gave me some time to roll around in bed a bit. I was only able to properly get out of bed was when my dad called me all the way from Italy (I miss you Papa!) just to tell me that the opening was about to start. Still being half asleep, it took me a while to find the channel that was broadcasting this live.

Here are some of the highlights that caught my attention:

1. Daniel Craig and the Queen
Yes. Yes, you read that right. Daniel Craig and the Queen of England. The scene actually went along with Daniel not playing himself actually but playing the best known OO7 British agent, James Bond. So in this part of the ceremony he picked up the Queen from the Buckingham palace and brought her to the Olympic Stadium. And the amusing part about that was it wasn't via car or boat or whatever fancy vehicle we use nowadays to make a grand entrance. They came by helicopter.

Sure, everyone comes nowadays by helicopter.

Until the queen decided to parachute down to the ceremonies. Of course, still being half awake, I wasn't able to fully comprehend that it was actually a fake queen that parachuted down. My mom even made a joke about saying about how it was Prince Charles trying to rid of his mother since she has been on the throne for such a long time.

Oh LOL.

2. 40-ft Voldemort
Need I say more? They actually paid homage to one of their iconic writers of the 21st century, J.K Rowling. She was even there at the opening reading a Peter Pan book. (Don't mind the person who was barely awake while watching the opening.)

3. Rowan Atkinson, seriously funny.
Ok, I think I made a terrible but common pun there. What amused me was Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean if you don't know his real name or maybe Johnny English to others) part of the orchestra. The amurisng part was that he was only playing one key the entire time and was not even following the conductor. This classic comedy just made me go LOL.

4. Tim Lee
Without the guy I just mentioned above, we all know that we are so fucked up right now. Tim Lee is none other than the person who actually invented modern-day internet. I was touched (being a computer studies student and all) that the Olympics paid homage to him. I mean, this old Brit deserves it. Cause if it weren't for him. I swear, we would all be so fucked up right now.

Of course, the Brits had their own way of showing their appreciation in this year's Olympics, also paying homage to Mary Poppins But there came the most awated part of the Olympics; The Parade Of Nations.

There was no way in hell I would be missing this.

Of course, the order was alphabetical. And I was even surprised that there were even countries I never knew existed. And now look at me, I already forgot their names. That time, it felt like the whole world was being compressed into my brain in one go. Of course, I was only looking forward to Russia, Japan, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Philippines, Great Britain, Serbia and let's just say practically the rest of Europe.

I was so happy to see Maria Sharapova carry the flag for Russia. What amused me about her is that in an interview she stated that she was expecting the flag to be much heavier. Ugh. She is just so gorgeous and so rich and so sexy. And she's an amazing tennis player. And then for the tennis men's division, there was no other than Novak Djokovic to carry the flag for Serbia.

It was Tennis feels alright.

And that's practically my Olympic highlights. Nothing more to say. After the opening ceremonies I fell asleep again. Yes, I'm that fucked up in this blog post.
